    Module Menu Maintenance

Create menus with Module Menu Maintenance

The Module Menu Maintenance screen is similar to the Dynamics SL Menu Maintenance screen (98.350.00) as it allows you to streamline users' access to just the Dynamics 365 Business Central applications they need. A built-in graphical dynamic preview of the menu you've built makes the process easy to review and make edits on the fly before deploying it. The system first looks at the permissions sets assigned to a user, and then looks at the menu you have built for their User ID to determine which pages or reports are displayed on the user's menu. Because you can build menus tailored to the user's specific role and permissions, they will only see menu items you specify. This will make it easier to perform the tasks and functions required for their role.

    Important

The Module Menu Maintenance page does not grant or remove permission sets, but simply provides a personalized menu for users that is specific to their role. If a permission set is removed after you have built the menu for them, the page related to the permission set automatically will no longer be displayed on the user's menu.

To access the Module Menu Maintenance page, use the Search feature and enter Module Menu Maintenance.

    Important

The Module Menu Maintenance page only displays if users are first assigned the SLO Admin Permission Set in the Users page.

    Menu Filters

The Module Menu Maintenance page displays filters which you can apply to narrow results to the specific user, menu group, menu module or menu category:

    1. User Name: Specify the User Name for whom the menu is being built.

    2. Menu Group: Specify the module(s) to select for the menu. If no selection is made, all modules are included. Options include:

      • Financials
      • Inventory
      • Orders
      • Foundation
    3. Module Menu: You must first select a filter first, in order for the Module Menu field to be enabled. Select the modules from Module Menu to include in the menu. If no selection is made, all modules are included. Options include:

      • Heading Type: Group, Module or Category

      • Menu Category: You must first select a filter for the Menu Group and the Module Menu filters for the Menu Category field to be enabled. Select the menu categories from Menu Category to include in the menu. If no selection is made, all menus are included. Options include:

      • Maintenance

      • Input

      • Process

      • Inquiries

      • Setup

      • Reports

    Menu Preview

As selections are made in the Menu Filters section, they are reflected immediately in the results displayed in the Menu Preview section.

    Important

Enabling/disabling items from the Menu Preview section has no bearing on permissions for any page displayed in the preview list. The Permissions page and permissions assigned to users in the Users page are the sole determination of permissions granted to a user. The menu you create for a user will only display (or not display) menu items which users have already been given permission.

    1. Under the Actions menu option, Enable Selected enables all lines from the menu that are selected and Disable Selected disables all lines from the menu that are selected. To enable/disable menu items for a user:
    • To disable a menu item: in the Menu Preview list, highlight the line you wish to disable, scroll to the Enabled field, and deselect the checkbox. The menu item is removed from the graphical preview on the right side of the Menu Preview. To select more lines, select the Ellipsis ... and then Select More. You can then select other lines to be disabled as desired. When completed with deselecting line items, select Actions > Disable Selected to complete the menu edit.

    • To enable a menu item: in the Menu Preview list, highlight the line you wish to enable, scroll to the Enabled field, and select the checkbox. The menu item is added to the graphical preview on the right side of the Menu Preview. To select more lines, select the Ellipsis ... and then Select More. You can then select other lines to be enabled as desired. When completed with selecting line items, select Actions > Enable Selected to complete the menu edit.

To preview the menu, select any tile on the right (graphical) side of the Preview Menu. Click the tile again to drill down into further detail until you reach the level of menu detail you wish to preview. All selected menu items on the left side display graphically on the right side. If you deselect a line item, the graphical menu automatically updates the changes that are displayed.

    Note

At this time, the graphical preview only displays changes for the individual menu items and will not display changes you make to either the Menu Module or the Menu Category filters. For example, if you change the Menu Group filter to a different menu group from Inventory to Financials, the graphical preview will still display all the menu groups (Financials, Inventory, Orders, Foundation). But if you drill into Financials > Accounts Payable > Maintenance, and disable the Vendor Maintenance item, that item will be removed from the graphical preview.

    Copy Menu

When you wish to copy an already existing menu from one user to different users, the Copy Menu feature in the SL Overlay adds the ability for a SL Overlay (SLO) Admin to copy an existing menu in the Module Menu Maintenance page and assign the copied menu to one or more users.

To copy a menu for other users:

    Important

You must be logged in with SLO Admin user permission set to proceed with these actions.

    1. Use the Search function to navigate to Module Menu Maintenance.

    2. Select a User Name from the lookup menu. This is the user whose menu you will copy.

      Important

For the next step, the More Options > Actions > Copy Menu action is disabled until you select at least one user name from the list.

    3. Select More Options > Actions > Copy Menu

    4. A list of available users is displayed.

    5. Select one or more users to whom you wish to copy the menu.

You will receive a message Overwrite Menu Process Completed. Select OK to close message.

        • If you select No to the message, the menu is not copied or assigned to the selected user(s) and no changes are made. You are returned to the Module Menu Maintenance page.

When you select Append Menu, you will receive a message "This action will create a copy of the selected menu and append to any existing menus (if exists) for the selected users. Proceed?. If no menu exists for the selected user(s), a new menu is created.

        • If you select No to the message, the menu is not copied or assigned to the selected user(s) and no changes are made. You are returned to the Module Menu Maintenance page.

      • To cancel the process without making any selections or changes, click "X" in the upper-right corner of the page to close the Copy User Menu SLO page.
